Wedding Reception Food
Wedding receptions and wedding reception food in particular, consume a big portion of your wedding budget. If you have a large guest list, you are going to have to cut some corners. The best way to do that is to avoid marrying later in the afternoon. That way, you can escape the enormous cost associated with a dinner reception.
There are three methods of serving food at your reception. Each has it's own merits. 1) Food stations are small buffet tables set up throughout the reception area. They are the cheapest method of providing food and refreshments for your guests. They are also the most fun. They encourage the guests to mix and mingle while sampling the different finger foods available at each table. 2) Buffet tables allow guests to help themselves. It encourages interaction amongst the guests. Everyone has their choice of the wedding reception food and can sit where they like. 3) Formal, catered meals are the most expensive and least fun. You know it, you've been to them. Guests are usually "assigned" seats and served a pre-selected meal. There is little incentive for the guests to mingle and the "shy" people sit quietly on the sidelines. However, they do have their place at formal weddings. Alcohol can be a major expense at receptions. Save on this by: * Limiting the time that alcohol will be served. * Serve only wine and beer. * Serve non-alcoholic "mocktails". * Have a breakfast, brunch or tea reception. Please remember, these are your friends and family you are serving. Shut the bar down and serve coffee and tea well before the end of the evening. Keep everyone safe!
