Wedding Music And Entertainment

Choose your wedding music and entertainment wisely. Wedding music DJ's and bandscan be very expensive but there are affordable alternatives.

You have choices. You can hire a live band, a disc jockey, or you can "do-it-yourself"! Needless to say, those choices are listed in order of expense.

Your decision as to who will play your wedding music will depend largely on thetype of wedding you are having. Live music lends more toward the traditionalformal wedding. A good DJ on the other hand will be more suited to "rock the house" at an informal affair. If you are going totally and completely "beach-sidebash" informal, supplying your own music is a great, inexpensive, alternative!

Of course if you are supplying your own music for the reception and dance, you may still want to have a professional perform briefly during the ceremony. Youdon't want any boo boo's there!

When you do hire your musicians, whether it be a band or a disk jockey, don't leave it until last minute. Good bands and DJ's can be booked up to a year inadvance so you'll want to start your search early. Start no later than six toeight months before your wedding!

Remember, most expensive doesn't necessarily mean "the best", so, shop around!

To help you to choose who will supply your wedding music and entertainment, here are a few comparisons...

Disc Jockey

  • Average cost $400 to $800 for 4 hours of wedding music and entertainment.

  • Can act as emcee. If he is good, he will be able to judge the mood of the guests andadapt the music accordingly. With upward of 30,000 songs to chose from, he can usually accommodate any special request.

  • Much larger selection of music - by original artists!

  • Does not require "breaks"...and if he does, the music plays on!

  • Usually very dependable.

    Four Piece Band

  • Average cost to provide 4 hours of wedding music and entertainment - $1800 to $3000.

  • Can act as emcee but also provides "visual" entertainment as people love to "watchthe band".

  • A good band will know maybe 400 to 500 songs. They will not be able to accomodateall special requests. The music is limited by the band's "style".

  • Require breaks and usually will not play as long as a DJ.

  • Have a higher rate of "no shows" due to lifestyle.

    Friend or Relative

  • Average cost - $150 including, $30 for a lifetime membership to an MP3 music download center,$20 for the CD's to burn and $100 "gift" to get a friend or relative to "baby sit" theCD player!

  • Can also act as emcee and will probably be the "best man" for the job as he knows youand your guests well! He'll probably get everyone's name right...at least early in theevening! ;)

  • Can always be talked into playing "just one more"!
